HOW TO TELL WHICH LUCAS ALTETTE Above you see the main 5 Types of LUCAS ALTETTE Bodies, starting with top left the 1930 to 1935 moving Coil type HF 317 & 318 plus the earlier 310 311 etc. Centre is one the types of Bezels used prior to 1933. Top Right is the late 1934 HF 934 plus 935 Types which had their points mounted still by 2 x 2BA pins in a pressed steel body, the 935 was a Black painted one without chrome & chrome domes on the bezel these continued intermittently because they cost more to produce than cast iron types into mid & late 1940's & were the last to use FLUTED DOME NUTS & the waisted centre front dome. Lower left is the first Cast Iron body from VERY late 1937 listed as HF 1234 & 1235, threads changed & 4 x 1BA threads were tapped in & the Bracket mounting pins & studs were the 9 & 3 o'clock threads, again the points were held in as the 934 935, dome nuts on STUDS were now Hexagon section. Next development shown on the right was late 1949 into 1951 early, when points were riveted into a recess at 12 o'clock & the numbers remained at HF 1234 & 1235 with only one front adjuster & often the 2 piece nut was used at front centre & on 1948 to 1953 the MAZAK Alloy appeared intermittently when Nickel was scarce for chroming & disappeared entirely in 1953, Late 1951 gradually & by makers models the front Bezel with names Lucas & Altette disappeared to be replaced with a less raised bezel without a name stamped in and rippled steel tone disc replaced the flat alloy tone disc the studs & Dome nuts were replaced by lower domed STEEL PINS with integral legs, these were also called HF 1234 & 1235 with the painted only one 1235 until circa 1963.

Klaxon Kifo, made all over the world including France under franchise & used on a great many European machines including when using the well known & rare Alloy "SQUIRREL" Front bezel with brass Limit Gauge on Scott 2 Strokes of mid 1930's. These Kifo types were also produced in France after WW2 & the Brass plate will indicate Holland Park Holborn London W1 where their import via a UK office was registered in an effort to produce hard Currency. British Manufacturers such as Miller Wipac & LUCAS however prevented them being used on British Machines when produced & items were Sold in Claude Rye Deeprose Marble Arch Hobday Brown Bros ELRICO & of Course Pride & Clark starting at 7s/6d when Lucas Altettes fetched over 15s in 1949, prices of course rose to 15s/6d by 1954 but Lucas rose well above the pattern of increase. These with 3 Kidney shaped cuts in a type of fronts were called DESMO 'used to replace other DESMO items used on Vincent-HRD, plus these were also termed Prima for later exports.

Clearhooters P101 or P201 ABOVE?, For T120 T140 T150? 'Holy Grail of Hooters? NO, sadly? THEY are not, what follows is how to arrive with these lookalikes cheaply!, Firstly obtain Keihu Maru horns which have oval alloy labels riveted on their Chrome covers, with "Safety" & other logos these are long out of production, are found in 6V & 12v so be careful if the cover/label is missing. I made these for a friend from a few Keihu Maru, using laminated brackets to get them to fit BSA & Triumphs, see below what to look for plus the pairs of adapting bracket laminates available here for them.
The bracket on the right is the Keihu Maru one which you remove to have the pair on the left to adapt for BSA/Triumphs. Adaptor Brackets, laser cut are available in pairs here.
